SIMS, Barbara Elaine – Of Flint, age 81, went home to Heaven on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Thom VerWys officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Flint First Wesleyan Church or the American Cancer Society. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Barbara was the first of five daughters born to John and Elizabeth McCulley on September 5, 1930. She was a resident of Davison, Michigan for 10 years, moving from Flint. Barbara married William (Bill) Sims on October 29, 1948, who died in 1993. They were blessed in 1955 with a wonderful son,(Billy), who has been deceased since 1980. She was a member of Flint First Wesleyan Church. She was a special lady and a beautiful homemaker. Her home and yard in Flint were like a picture in a magazine. She leaves behind to cherish her memory three sisters, Wanda (Frank) Blewett of Davison, Pat (Jerry) Waun, Elizabeth (Paul) Merritt, both of Clio; one niece and nephews, Mary Lynn (Bill) Jakubielski of Greenville, Gordon (Patty) Waun of Florida, John Blewett of Grand Blanc, Lee (Cathy) Waun of Clio and Lorne Fry of Mt. Morris; several great-nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son, Billy; her parents, John and Elizabeth McCulley; her sister, Connie Lanfear and niece, Kellie Blewett.
