BOURQUE, Esther J. – Of Flint, age 98, died Monday, July 30, 2018 at McLaren-Flint.
Visitation 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Visitation 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street in Flint, Father Thomas Firestone officiating.
Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Esther was born in St. Gregoire Nicolet, Quebec, Canada on January 24, 1920, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Bouvet and she moved to the Flint area in 1959. On August 29, 1953 she married Joseph Bourque.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Esther wore many hats during her career. She started as a bookkeeper and then became a school teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, before starting a long term career as a registered nurse.
She worked at McLaren Hospital for 28 years and retired in 1990, at the age of 70 years.
Esther was a beautiful soul, who left a lasting impression to all who met her.
She was a truly loving and caring person who loved life to the fullest.
Surviving are 3 children, Alice and husband Brian FitzGerald,
Julie Anne Bourque,
Paul and wife Susanne;
10 grandchildren;
3 brothers and 1 sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on July 15, 2017; son, Denis; grandson, Aidan; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
