Louis Krafft
Frankenmuth, MI

Louis E. Krafft, 90, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Fondly known as Lou or Louie, he and his twin sister Luella were born to Alfred and Emily (Trinklein) Krafft on November 19, 1930 on the family farm in Frankenmuth, MI. He was baptized on November 30, 1930, attended grade school at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, and graduated from Arthur Hill High School. Lou attended Michigan State University, participated in ROTC, enjoyed any sport his beloved Spartans played, and graduated with a degree in police administration. He served as a 1st Lieutenant, MPC, for 2 years in the U.S. Army at Ft. Ord before beginning his career as a special agent with the U.S. Treasury Department Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms for 20 years in the Detroit, Chicago, and Washington, D.C offices. During that time he took a short break to earn a Master’s degree in electrical engineering at Wayne State University and worked with colleagues for 8 years developing sonar technology at General Electric Corporation in Syracuse, New York. After retiring from ATF, he joined the court security staff at the Genesee County Courthouse, eventually becoming their supervisor. In his free time, he faithfully watched and attended MSU football and basketball games and Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers games, golfed on courses everywhere he lived and visited, participated in bowling and softball leagues, planted beautiful landscaping and thriving gardens in every yard he owned, fixed electronic devices for family and friends, served at his churches as an elder and usher, and spent hours trying to help his children understand their math problems.

Lou courted a beautiful Nebraska girl, Ardis A. (Krumm) Krafft, who sang with him in the church choir at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park, MI. Lou and Ardis were joined in marriage on November 28, 1958 in North Platte, Nebraska. They established their first home in Detroit, MI, and raised 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren throughout their 60-year marriage and multiple career moves. In addition to Calvary Lutheran Church, they faithfully attended and served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Syracuse, NY; Bethel Lutheran Church in Westmont, IL; St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, MD; Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia, MI; and St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, MI. Ardis went home to be her Lord on December 14, 2018.

Surviving are children James (Susan) Krafft, Laura (Gary) Thomas, Daniel (Beth) Krafft; grandchildren Michael (Stephanie) Krafft, Meghan Krafft, Nicholas (Katie) Krafft, Joe (Ashley) Thomas, Julieann Thornsberry, Jeff (Ally) Thomas, Andrew Krafft, Ethan Krafft, and Cameron Krafft; great-grandchildren Molly Krafft, Henry Krafft, expected 2022 great grandson Krafft, Jaxon Thornsberry, Kaci Thornsberry, Natalie Thomas; brother Norman (Joann) Krafft, sister-in-law Eleanor Krafft, and many nieces and nephews.
