James Michael Whitten, known to family and friends as Mike, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, two days after celebrating his 79th birthday. Born March 9, 1947, Mike lived a quiet life centered on family and friends.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a part of his life he carried with quiet pride.
He appreciated good food, easy conversations, and spending time with the people he cared about. He especially loved snowmobiling adventures with friends, where laughter and camaraderie were always part of the trails.
Mike had a way of making any gathering feel complete, but he was also known for his legendary “Houdini” exits—one minute he was there, the next he had quietly slipped out the door before anyone noticed.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James Whitten and Ruth (Marble) Whitten, and his brother, Terrance Whitten.
He is survived by his brothers, Gerald (Ann) Whitten and Timothy (Christina) Whitten; nephews Mark, Dan, John, Jeff, Jason, and Damon Whitten; and niece Karen Edwards.
He will be deeply missed by family and friends, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family is grateful for the support they have received. Memorial service details will be shared when available. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a veterans’ organization supporting Vietnam-era veterans in honor of Mike’s service.
