EDGCOMBE, ANN JACKSON age 85, died November 30, 2017 at The Oaks at Woodfield in Grand Blanc Township. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI. Reverend Roger Good of the First Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12 from 6:00PM-8:00PM and Wednesday, December 13 from Noon-2:00PM. A light desert will be offered following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Michigan Crossroads Council of the BSA or the Grand Blanc Heritage Association. Ann is survived by her three sons – Stephen Edgcombe of Pensacola, FL, David Edgcombe of Flint, MI, and Robert J. Edgcombe of Grand Blanc, MI; her brother William Jackson of Montrose, CO; 3 grandchildren Denise Byron of Virginia Beach, VA and Cole Edgcombe and Samantha Edgcombe of Grand Blanc, MI, and 3 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Edgcombe.
Ann was born in Springfield, Ohio, on September 2, 1932, the daughter of Kathryn Snyder Jackson and Rodger Rebert Jackson. She lived in Fort Thomas, KY, Springfield, OH, Mt. Lakes, NJ, Seattle, WA, Okinawa, Japan and Augusta, GA before moving to Grand Blanc in 1963 to fill a teaching position. She rented a small house next door to her eventual husband of 51 years. Ann graduated high school from St. Johns School in Mt. Lakes, NJ, in 1951 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Physical Education from Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH in 1955. She taught Physical Education in the Grand Blanc School System from 1963 to 1967 at Brendle Elementary, Indian Hill Elementary, Reed Road Elementary, and Grand Blanc High School. She continued as a substitute teacher for Grand Blanc Schools and retired in 1991. Ann taught Sunday School at the First Congregational UCC and served as the Church Historian as well as participating on many committees. She volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 175 in the 1960’s and a den leader for Pack 176 in the 1970s and was the founder and advisor for Explorer Post 368 in the 1970’s and 1980’s. She was awarded the Silver Beaver near the end of her Scouting career. She coached Little League baseball as well as the girl’s basketball and softball teams for Grand Blanc High School in the late 1960s. She also volunteered at Genesis Hospital and served as a Docent at the Grand Blanc Heritage Association Museum. Her loves were her husband Bob, her three sons, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and SAILING.
