Joyce Louise (Gerwolds) Thatcher, 92, of Columbiaville, MI died peacefully at Medilodge of Grand Blanc on Friday, July 9, 2021 with her family at her side. She was born in Columbiaville, MI to the late Fred and Ila (Sanford) Gerwolds on March 8, 1929. Joyce graduated from Columbiaville High School with the Class of 1947 as the Salutatorian of her class. She then graduated from Baker Business in Flint, MI. Joyce married Clyde J. Thatcher on August 27, 1948 at Columbiaville United Methodist Church.
Joyce worked for many years at WFDF Radio in Flint, MI and retired from the LakeVille School Administration Office. After retiring she worked at Baird Newton Funeral Home in Lapeer, MI and Columbiaville, MI and Avram Funeral Home in Mayville, MI. Joyce also served for 12 years on the Senior Program Board for Lapeer County and the Advisory Board for the Valley Area Agency on Aging for Lapeer, Genesee and Shiawassee Counties.
She was a lifelong member of the Columbiaville United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer for many years. Joyce was also a charter member of the Columbiaville Historical Society and a member of the former Women’s Service League. She loved Sudoku, reading, watching TV, the Detroit Tigers, garage sales, traveling, the cabin at Sage Lake, and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her daughter, Kathleen and husband William Sudia; granddaughter, Nicole and husband Matthew Krause; grandson, Adam and wife Tiffany Sudia; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Isabella and Benjamin Sudia and Trevor Krause; son-by-law, Allen Avram; and sister-in-law, Judy Thatcher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde in 1988; daughter, Wendy Avram in 2017; and brother, Earl Gerwolds.
The family will receive visitors Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 4 – 8 PM at the Columbiaville United Methodist Church and from 10 AM until the time of service on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Columbiaville United Methodist Church, 4696 Pine St. Columbiaville, MI 48421 with Pastor Phil Tousley and Ron Stier officiating.
Burial will follow at Oregon Township Cemetery, Columbiaville, MI.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbiaville United Methodist Church or the Columbiaville Historical Society.
