BRANDT, NANCY - Of Grand Blanc, age 90, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Tranquility Estates in Grand Blanc.
Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Pastor Monica Villarreal officiating.
Visitation will be held from 12noon Saturday until the time of service at the funeral home.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Nancy was born in Flint, MI on April 9, 1936 to Verncil Odes and Janet (Wubbena) Whitmire. She had one younger sister, Sharon, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Flint Northern HS, and received a bachelor’s and master’s from the Univ Of Michigan in English Education. After college she worked in Flint Community Schools as a High School English teacher and spent summers in the Business office at her beloved Musical Tent.
She married Carl Edward Brandt in 1959 and moved to Palo Alto, CA where she taught English in the Bay Area for a year before they got homesick for Michigan. She then returned to the Flint Schools where she worked until she had children and stayed home to raise them.
As a mom she was very involved with her children’s schools, volunteering and working as a substitute. When she went back to work full-time, she found her calling at The Valley School where she worked many years teaching English and serving as a college counselor. Even after retirement she returned to Valley to plan schedules and help with college applications.
Nancy was a long-time member of Salem Lutheran Church in Flint. Nancy enjoyed reading, bible study, playing bridge, water aerobics, family and friends, and spending time at her family cottages on Au Sable and South Dease Lakes. More than anything she loved family time with her 4 children and 8 grandchildren. She and the love of her life Carl, just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They loved hosting candy making and caroling parties, and traveling with friends and visiting grandkids. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Becky, and son, Doug.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Brandt, son David (Susan) Brandt; daughter, Debby Hedges; grandchildren, Eric (Kirah), Tim, Andrew (Renee), Elziabeth (Aaron) Matthew (Jacqui), Scott (Katie. Maddy and Tommy; son-in-law Tony Cubr; daughter-in-law Suzanne Brandt.
