Marion was born in Flint, MI on October 28, 1930, daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Kimball) Watson. A graduate of Flint Northern High School, Class of 1948, Marion’s life reflected steady faith, quiet generosity, and a deep love for family. Her dedication to service began early. Marion graduated from The Salvation Army Corps Cadet program in 1949. She shared her skills and care with many, serving as a Girl Scout leader and offering guidance and encouragement to young people in her community. On November 1, 1952, Marion married Joseph Schaffer in Flint, MI. Joseph preceded her in death on December 13, 2013. She worked for 4 years in the office at Selby Elementary School in Flint, MI. Marion also worked as a biller for several local car dealerships, where colleagues remember her reliability and friendly manner. She loved to sew — making clothing and curtains for family and friends — and delighted in practical creativity that made life more beautiful for those around her. Marion and her husband, Joseph, enjoyed winters in Arizona, where they embraced a new pastime together: lawn bowling, creating warm memories and lasting friendships. Marion’s greatest joy throughout her life was time spent with family. She cherished gatherings, traditions, and the simple comforts of being together. Marion will be remembered for her steady hands, her welcoming smile, her sharp wit, and the many small acts of service that quietly shaped the lives of others.
