Susan Carol Frey, age 78, of Clio, Michigan, passed away on August 9th, 2026, at Serenity House Memory Care Facility, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born on February 29th, 1948, in Lansing, Michigan, to parents Harold and Marjorie Hoisington. Growing up, Susan spent time learning to play the piano and singing in church with her family. She attended Marion College (Indiana Wesleyan University) obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She later obtained her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University. She was a teacher for many years.
On June 6th, 1970, she married Donald, and together they shared 56 years of love and companionship. She spent 20 years as a Pastor’s wife.
Her biggest calling was being a mother to Andrew and Sarah along with being their homeschool teacher. She spent over 40 years of her life singing with church choirs, along with worship and praise teams. She was an avid crafter and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, kindness and love for Southern Gospel music.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Harold and Marjorie Hoisington. She is survived by her spouse, Donald; son, Andrew; daughter, Sarah Bruney; and her grandchildren, Isaac and Elijah Bruney.
A celebration of life will be held at Richfield Nazarene Church on Friday, August 14th, at 11:00 am, located at 7524 E. Mount Morris Road, Otisville, Michigan.
The family will have visitation at Swartz Funeral Home on Thursday, August 13th, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Along, with visitation at Richfield Nazarene Church on Friday, August 14th, at 10:00 am until service.
The family wishes to thank Swan Hospice and the staff at Serenity House for their kind & compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Richfield Nazarene Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in Susan’s memory.
