SCHAAF, Charles Raymond – of Mt. Morris, MI, age 87, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021 at his residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, May 21, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5199 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Interment, with Military Honors, in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Thursday, May 20, 2021 and 10-11 AM Friday, May 21, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in Charlie’s memory.
Charlie was born in Murdock, MN on June 18, 1933, son of the late John and Grace (Gardner) Schaaf. He was a decorated Korean War veteran proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy, earning a Purple Heart. Charlie married Constance “Connie” Morrison on May 19, 1956 and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2020. He retired from Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in 1988 after more than 25 years of service. Charlie was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a history buff and loved to travel to historical places in the U.S. Charlie also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Charlie is survived by 8 children, Kathy (Robert) Langdon, John (Paula) Schaaf, Franklin (Beth Brown) Schaaf, Dale (Cindy) Schaaf, Laura Anselmo, Joseph (Lisa) Schaaf, Lisa Schultz and Marcy Schaaf; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Schaaf; his wife, Constance “Connie” Schaaf and his brother, Jack Schaaf.
