JoAnn was born on July 24, 1948, in St. Joseph, Michigan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Redfern) Young. On December 16, 1978, she married Edward Ferguson in Flint, beginning a loving partnership that spanned more than 47 years. JoAnn dedicated more than 30 years of her life to nursing, a profession that perfectly reflected her compassionate and selfless spirit. She later extended that care by owning and operating an adult foster care home for 15 years, providing comfort, dignity, and a sense of family to those in her care. Her loving, giving, and nurturing nature was woven into every aspect of her life. JoAnn found great joy in caring for others, often opening her home and heart to family and friends in times of need, offering not only support but a steadfast sense of security and love. She was a former member of Home Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Morris. In her quiet moments, JoAnn found happiness tending to her flower gardens and growing vegetables, taking pride in the beauty and nourishment they provided. JoAnn’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to others, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Edward Ferguson, daughter, Kathryn (Sawyer) Benthal; grandchildren, Stephen (Brooke) Mathews, and Samantha Mathews; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Brayden, Lillian, Spencer, Veronica, and Aven; great-great-granddaughter, Sadie; sister, Cora Osborn; special niece, Melissa Presley; many other loving family members and friends.
