Mark was born January 17, 1952 in Flint, MI son of the late Alvin & Anita Nickerson. He attended Davison High School, graduating in 1970. He served in the United States Navy and attended various colleges. Mark began his career with the State of Michigan Department of Corrections in 1985. Mark completed his journey in 2013 where he retired from Thumb Correctional Facility with 28 years of service as a Sargeant.

Mark enjoyed the outdoors. He looked forward to deer hunting season, gardening and was known for growing some really great looking veggies, especially tomatoes. He would always grow too much but loved to give It away for someone else to enjoy. He watched many old TV shows with His all-time favorite being Andy Griffith. His famous line was , “it’s a
Classic.” After his health declined, most nights were spent rarely missing an episode of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He enjoyed 60’s music and in the summer he would play it loud on the deck.

Mark’s greatest reward in life was his family, especially his three grandkids. They were his absolute world. He couldn’t be more proud of each one of them and light up each time he was able to brag about them. When they were little he was famous for always bringing candy and hiding it in his inside coat pocket. Kyle, Taner and Graysen had Papa wrapped around their finger and even into their adult life. Mark had one wish when he fell ill and on September
9, 2023 it came true. He wanted to dance with Graysen on her wedding day to “I Hope You Dance,” a song that he picked out for the two of them when she was
First born and it will be remembered as one of the best dances in time.

As I write this, I want you all to know that Mark was also proud and loved me beyond measure, his "Daughter.” He would always say, you are my daughter there Isn’t anything “step” about it. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for me. He Loved his son in law, Greg. He would always say he was the best son anyone could Ask for.

Mark leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Lisa and husband Greg, grandkids, Kyle, Taner, Graysen and wife Adriann. His ex-wife Sandra who became his closest Friend, caregiver and TV partner. Siblings, Barbara (Dave) Jackett, Charlene (Charlie) Martin, Alan (Lisa) Nickerson, Nita Nickerson-Munger and Eric Nickerson, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His cat Pookie and grand-dogs Molly & Darby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Bruce Nickerson and long-time companion Claudia Edgar.

For my family, from Papa, “I love it, I love it!”
