WHITMAN, Charles F. – of Burton, MI, age 90, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021. A Private Funeral Service will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating. Interment in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM – 12 PM Friday, April 9, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, in memory of Charles.
Charles was born in Flint, MI on May 13, 1930, son of the late Charles F. and Lois (Wilkinson) Whitman. He graduated from Flint Northern High School. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Barbara J. Craine, a marriage of 71 years. Charles was an electrician, owning his own business and then moving on to General Motors, where he retired in 1993.
Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring trails up north with his canine pal, Pete and Barb at his side. He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #236 and a member of The Elf Khurafeh Shrine, serving in the Security Unit. Charles was a Genesee County Special Deputy and served with the Sheriff’s Senior Unit. He belonged to The Flint Generals Booster Club and served as an off-ice official as a scorebook keeper. For 10 consecutive years, Charles and Barbara walked the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor Day.
Charles is survived by his wife, Barbara Whitman; children, Larry Whitman of Davison, Lois “Jean” (Mac) McField of Ft. Pierce, FL, Duane (Ann) Whitman of Otisville, Bruce (Karen) Whitman of Grand Blanc and Debbie (Charlie) Grosvenor of Byron; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends, including “adopted” daughter, Arlene Ross of Grand Blanc. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; daughter-in-law, Ellen Whitman; grandson, Eric Whitman.
The family wishes to thank Regency at Grand Blanc and Kindred Hospice for their tender care of our beloved husband, dad and grandpa. They wish to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rommel Aquino.
