Sophie Irene Osysko Koenig was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 16, 1929, to Francis Osysko and Teresa (Gniadek) Osysko, both of whom immigrated to America from Poland.

Sophie was joyfully welcomed home by her glorious Savior, Jesus Christ, on her 97th birthday.

On November 1, 1947, she married Carl Koenig, Jr. Together they began a life that grew into a family legacy that, by any measure, is truly amazing.

Those left to forever cherish her memory include her children: Ron (Michelle) Koenig of Burton, MI, and Patricia (Richard) Belanger of Sylvania, OH; and her brother, Frank Jr. (Cecelia) Osysko of Las Vegas, NV.

She is also lovingly remembered by her 10 grandchildren:
Robert (Laurie) Stratton of Sylvania, OH; Laurie (Bill) Brixey of Holly Springs, NC; Jeff (Michelle) Koenig of Lincoln Park, MI; Steve (Amber) Koenig of Owosso, MI; Ashley (Ashton) Horne of Zephyrhills, FL; Alexis Koenig of Burton, MI; Troy Koenig of Burrillville, RI; April (Josh) Schroeder of Burton, MI; and twins Jaylynn and Jamie Koenig of Burton, MI.

She was blessed with 24 great-grandchildren:
Isaac Koenig, Abigail Koenig, Carly Brixey, Chloe Koenig, Elijah Keener, Noah Keener, Brooke Koenig, Liam Hyde, Julia Brixey, Talia Schroeder, Faith Koenig, Adela Schroeder, Raelynn Schroeder, Luke Hyde, Daniel Koenig, Samuel Koenig, Nathanael Koenig, Ezekiel Koenig, Makenna Koenig, Asher Horne, and twins Reagan and Riley Koenig.

Her selfless caregivers included Alexis Koenig, Noah Keener, Jamie Koenig, Evelyn Knoll, Kelley St. Amand, Leora Mitchell, Katherine Knight, and her special hospice nurse, Mary Bodus.

She was a loving mother figure to Dave Stratton and Steve LaFerney, and poured into their lives with the same care, faith, and devotion she gave her own family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl Koenig, Jr.; her parents; her brother Fred; and her sisters Stacie, Helen, Lottie, and Mary.

She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Bill LaFerney, with whom she shared a love of ballroom dancing, golf excursions, casino trips, and extensive travel—including Europe, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and cruises.

Sophie was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grand Blanc, Michigan. For many years, she shared her remarkable gift for decorating cakes, blessing countless family members and friends on their special occasions.

Most especially, she treasured time spent with her family. Ultimately, because of Jesus, this is the one thing she will take with her and enjoy forever.
