James E. Cherry of Flushing, age 73, died Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at Unitarian Universalist Church of Flint, 2474 S. Ballenger Hwy., Flint. Rev. Claudene F. Oliva will officiate. Burial will be 3 p.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery, Tekonsha, MI. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Rossell Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Monday at the church until time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Flint or Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
Jim was born in Saginaw, MI on December 26, 1939, the son of the late James A. and Julia L. (Spagnuolo) Cherry. He married Kay E. Martinson in Marshall, MI on September 24, 1966. Jim was the Assistant Personnel Director for Genesee County from 1966-1968 and then the Personnel Director for Genesee County from 1968-1971. He was also a Sociology Professor at Mott Community College from 1971-2003.
Jim is survived by: wife, Kay; two sons, Jonathan of Berkley, MI, Benjamin of New York City; sister, Marilyn Terreault of Sarasota, FL; sisters-in-law, Peggy Campbell of Ann Arbor, Judy Jenkins of Tekonsha, Lynne and husband Doug Kane of Battle Creek; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, James Campbell and Gale Jenkins.
