Philip “Barry” Boyd, 83, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, surrounded by his loving family, after a six-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Barry was born on December 30, 1942, in Flint, Michigan, to Henry and Helen Boyd.Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 14, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home in Swartz Creek, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, April 15, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Angels Church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, with Fr. Barry married the love of his life, Lynn, in a civil ceremony on March 3, 1978, and they were later united in the Catholic Church in March of 2014. Together, they raised four children: Melinda Nasser (Mike), Dr. Matthew Boyd (Jennifer), Terry Parsons (Jacqueline, mother of his daughters), and Nicole Boyd-Wildeman (Matthew). He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Eddie) Harris.
Barry dedicated 39 years to General Motors at the Flint Engine Plant, beginning in 1961, and retired in 2000. He was a proud member of the Flint Elks Lodge #222 since 1983 and an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 6694.
Next to his deep love for his family and his faith in God his Savior, Barry had a passion for golf and bowling. He achieved “scratch” status in both. His love for golf began at age 14 when he caddied at Flint Golf Club.
Barry’s love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unmatched. He is survived by George Nasser (Samantha), Charlotte and Grayson; Katelynn, Noah, and Abigail Boyd; Ava and Grace Parsons; Gavin Wildeman and Jan Rozen.
