Nelson Robert Schaaf of Davison, age 92, died Tuesday August 4, 2020 at Devonshire Retirement Village. A private funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday August 8, 2020 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Burial will be held in Davison Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive visitors from 1 – 4 pm Friday at the funeral home. Due to CDC guidelines social distancing and limited amounts of visitors at one time will be followed. The family would like you to join them during visitation, but understand you may or may not at this time and respects your decision. Nelson was born in Imlay City Michigan on September 5, 1927 the son of the late Ephraim & Lora (Weidman) Schaaf and has resided in the Davison area most of his life. He was joined in marriage to Kathryn Laarman on June 6, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 19, 2016. Nelson was a graduate of Imlay City High School, and a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Davison. Nelson was known for his outgoing caring personality and humor and was loved by everyone. He was an avid woodworker and truly enjoyed the ability to work with his hands. He owned and operated Nelson’s Gulf Service Station in Davison. He later worked as a Supervisor and Chief Technician for Comcast Communications until his retirement.
Surviving is daughters; Pam & Bryce Shelton and Pat & Larry Vincent. He also leaves grandchildren; Tonya & Jeff Miller, Kristi & Kevin Quaid, Amber & Hai Doan, his great grandchildren; Jeffrey (Abbey), Luke, Bailey, Auran, Max, Madilyn and great great granddaughter River Rose Miller. Surviving also is sister Estella Mae Turrell, special nieces and nephews; Barb, Mike, Linda, Larry, his sister-in-laws; Alma Laarman, Marge Laarman, several nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by siblings: Elmer, Clayton, Leonard, Ralph, and Edna.
