Bob was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 26,1934, the son of the late Stanley and Dorothy (Harman) Centilli.
He married the love of his life Joyce E. Gunnell on December 23, 1972.
Bob owned Centilli Cement, a local concrete contractor who supplied foundations, slabs and driveways for residential and commercial needs in the area for many years.
Bob loved to play and watch baseball, and Centilli Cement actively supported the local baseball scene, especially by sponsoring Centilli Cement, Centilli and Smith, and Centilli and Grossi Connie Mack baseball teams for many years, (managed by longtime friend Doug Serrels), which played in the Connie Mack Baseball League for 18 and under high school players as well as the local men’s league during summers.
In 1981, the Centilli and Grossi baseball team went to a third-place finish in the national American Amateur Baseball Congress Connie Mack World Series and in 1982 it culminated with a second-place finish in the Connie Mack World Series. Assembled from the best of local talent, Coach Ted Mahan (Davison, U-M, MSU) would later state “Every kid was from Genesee County and that is amazing, to play with teams from around the country and every
kid is from Genesee County,” Mahan said. “It was the cohesiveness of the unity. They didn’t care who got the big hit or the big play as long as we won. We were talented too, with about eight or 10 players going on to play in Division 1, but I’ve coached for almost 40 years and that summer with those guys was special.”
The 1982 Centilli and Grossi Connie Mack World Series Runner Up Team was inducted into the Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2012 with Bob and Joyce being honored at the event.
Bob was also active in the community as the President of the Burton City Council. Bob built and donated the Burton Veterans Memorial to the city in 1997 and was active in the Burton City Council as President and as a Councilman for many years.
Bob was devoted to his wife Joyce, his family and his friends, especially to his beloved grandchildren Matthew Zahn, Ashley Stevens, and Natalie Melvin. Bob was the #1 fan for Matt’s incredible Kickers Kickball team which has taken first place for 19 consecutive years and attended every game.
Surviving are wife Joyce Centilli; brothers Stanley Centilli, Richard Centilli and sisters Lillian Bigelow and Linda Bidelman; children, Roberta (Mike) Bracy, Robert S Centilli II, Wendy (Michael) Austin, Julie (David) Goldsworthy; grandchildren Matthew Zahn, Ashley Stevens, Natalie Melvin, Jason Johansson, Jennifer Johansson; and great grandchildren Addison Melvin, Austin Melvin, Talon Serrato, Beckham Serrato, Gunner Andrews, and Chase Andrews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Dorothy (Harman) Centilli; sisters Virginia Hack and Evelyn Farrar, son Christopher Centilli, and son William Wright.
