Duane LaVerne Thompson, age 72, of Owosso, passed away Monday, August 15th, 2011 at Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center. Duane was born in Owosso, Michigan on October 7, 1938, the son of the late Paul Clinton and Mildred (Perrine) Thompson. He grew up in Owosso and attended Owosso Public Schools, graduating from Owosso High School. Duane served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. On June 12, 1965, he married Kathrine J. Waldrop in Lansing. He worked for General Motors at the V-8 Plant in Flint as an Inspector. He retired from GM after 30 faithful years of service. Duane served as an interim pastor and guest preacher as an Exhorter's Minister for the Pentecostal Church of God. He greatly enjoyed being around kids and freely volunteered his time as a scout leader and little league baseball coach. As the coach, he cheered 'louder' than anyone. In his later years he enjoyed drawing pictures - bringing life and color to a blank sheet of paper.

Duane is survived by his wife, Kathrine of Owosso; two daughters, Barbara (Bart) Carpenter of Corunna; Tomica (Chris) McClellan of Owosso; a son, Dewayne Thompson of South Carolina; grandchildren, Barbara Nichole (Jon) Peterson; Melany Ann (John) Prestonise; Blake Michael McClellan; Ariella Kylene McClellan; Briana Cynaman McClellan; great grandchildren: Jazzmyne Skylar Prestonise; Avril Capri Peterson; sister, Marilyn (Barnett) Merrel of St. Helen; brother, Rev. Richard (Pat) Thompson, Sr. of Montgomery, MI; sister-iin-law, Jean Thompson of England; brother-in-law, Klaus Fiedler of Mesick; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marlene Fiedler and Norma Jene O'Neil; and brothers, James and Donald.

Memorials are suggested to the World Missions of the Pentecostal Church of God.
