Donald L. Drake age 83 of Aledo, IL. died Tuesday May 10, 2011 at the Aledo Rehab and Health Care Center. Services are 10:00 am Friday at the Fippinger funeral Home in Aledo. Burial is in the Buffalo Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 PM Thursday at Fippingers where memorials may be left to the Antioch Baptist Church. He was born March 10, 1928 in Eldon, Iowa to Glen and Leota Carl Drake. He graduated from Eldon High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army. On September 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Swaim in Eldon, Iowa.
Don was employed as a farm equipment mechanic for many years. He began his career with Earl Hines, was employed at Doonan’s Implement in Preemption for several years before becoming self-employed until retirement.
He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, 2 daughters, Vicki Fosnacht of Viola, Il , Sheila Dhaemers of Sherrard, Il, 3 sons, Steve (Bonnie) Drake of Illinois City, Il, Doug (Julie) Drake of Aledo , Il, Monte (Sandy) Drake of Lynn Center, Il, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
His parents, 1 granddaughter Christa and a sister Louise Hamilton preceded him in death
