James Myrle Huntoon of Wheeler passed away on Sunday, August 9, at the age of 91 with his family by his side. Jim was born on December 15, 1934, the first son and eldest of 5 children to Myrle and Lucille (Wertz) Huntoon, he graduated from Breckenridge High School with the class of 1953. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Joan Hollenbeck, on July 31, 1953. Jim spent his life working in the dealership his father Myrle had started in Wheeler, initially selling Studebakers and over the years adding Kawasaki motorcycles and Studebaker / Chrysler products in Alma. Jim was known locally as Mr. Studebaker and for his knowledge and ability to fix any vehicle that came through his shop for both himself and friends alike.



He is survived by his children, Marc (Elizabeth) Huntoon, Stephanie (Kevin) Olling, grandchildren Nik Monroe (Amelia Castillo), Katie (Chris) Greenland, Andrew (Rachel) Monroe, Alex Monroe, Niall (Emily) Olling, Alyssa (George) Brittain, Breu (Austin) Smith, Isabel (Tanner) Firl, Laurel Huntoon, Kirsten (Curtis) Bell , 19 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Karen (Hayden) Butcher and Karmen (David) Schall, as well as a special lifelong friendship with brother in law Jerry (Dixie) Hollenbeck.



Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years Joan, infant son Stephen, daughter Cynthia Donahue, infant great granddaughter Charlotte Greenland and 2 brothers, Phillip (Dee) Huntoon, and Larry Huntoon.



A celebration of life will be held Thursday, August 20th, at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside United Brethren Church in Breckenridge, followed by a grave side service at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Breckenridge with retired Pastor Lee Rhodes and Pastor Benjamin Beck officiating. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m.



The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Schnepp Senior Care in St. Louis for their exceptional care and, in particular, for Sydney’s unwavering friendship during the last few years of Jim’s life. Additionally, they would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Jim and his family during the last week of Jim’s life.
