LaVerne Wadhams, 82, a resident of Fountains Community in Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of New Windsor, Ill. Completed his earthly walk and entered his eternal journey Tuesday January 25, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf . A Celebration of Life will be 10:30 AM Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. Burial is in the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery where graveside Military Services will be conducted by the George Norris American Legion Post # 484 of which he was a member. Visitation is from 5-8 PM Thursday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where memorials may be left to Calvary Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com
He was born August 17, 1928 in Knox County, Il to Harry and Emma Carlson Wadhams. HE graduated from Galesburg High School and married Violet Taylor August 18, 1951. She died in 1982. He later married Verla Sage Carter May 17, 1992.
LaVerne was a U.S. Veteran of the Korean War and retired from Moorman’s Manufacturing in Alpha
He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran church in New Windsor where he spent a lifetime serving the Lord and the church. He taught Sunday School, rang the church bell for decades, served on the Council, memorial committee and cemetery committee and most recently attended Harvest Bible Chapel in Davenport. He knew and loved cars, enjoyed being outside and mowing and was an avid walker. He always had a good joke to share and was a dedicated family man and wonderful Father and Husband.
Survivors include his wife, Verla, a daughter Debra (Timothy) Austin of Oneida, Il 2 sons, Dennis Wadhams of New Windsor, Steve (Nancy) Wadhams of Frisco, TX, Step-Children, Scott (Connie) Carter, Brian (Donna) Carter, Tim (Kellie) Carter all of Princeton, IA, Geri Carter of Davenport, 5 grandchildren Travis, Greg, Emma, Norah and Sam, 16 step-grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren sisters, Marion (Claude) Reffitt of Altona, Il, Harriet (Leland) Peterson of Woodhull, Beverly
(Gary) Cook of Grinnell, Ia, 3 brothers, Russell (Opal) Wadhams of Viola, Il, Donald (Bonnie) Wadhams of New Windsor, Bill (Twila) Wadhams of Danville, Il, Sister-in-law Velma Wadhams , 2 step-sisters, Dolores Bird and Paula Sage and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife Violet, grandson Steve, stepdaughter Deena, Stepson Kevin 1 brother Melvin and 1 sister Ellen preceded him in death
