SKAFF, GEORGE JAMES – Of Flint, age 80, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday April 2, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church, 746 South Saginaw Street, Flint, Reverend Dr. Joseph Novak with Reverend Paul Ytterock assisting.
Those desiring may make contributions to First Presbyterian Church or Young Life of Genesee County.
Visitation 4p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Viewing will be at the church from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.
George was born in Flint, Michigan on May 19, 1943, the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Margaret Ann (McGee) Skaff.
He had been married to Kathy for 46 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Flint and active in the choir. He was also a devoted supporter of Young Life.
George attended Flint Southwestern High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball.
He played baseball for the University of Michigan, where he also received his MBA.
He served 3 years in the U.S. Navy and upon returning to Flint he joined the family business (Skaff Furniture Carpet One), where he worked for 47 years.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are wife, Kathy;
daughter, Renee Arter;
grandchildren, Erinn Bradow, Allison (Daniel) Kietzman, Emily Boyd, Alisha Arter and Kyle Arter;
plus 8 great-grandchildren and siblings, Mary (Chuck) Knoblock,
Peggy (Bill) Anderson, Thomas (Judy) Skaff and Richard (Kim) Skaff;
plus many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tina Boyd and great-grandson, Ryder Kietzman.
