CHARTRAND, DOUGLAS – Of Burton, age 82, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation will be held from 11am Saturday, until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Doug was born in Flint, Michigan on May 8, 1943, the son of the late Jerome and Ruth (Wilkinson) Chartrand.
He married the love of his life Barbara Gene Pitken on September 28, 1961. Together they built a life rooted in love and family, sharing 61 years of marriage before her passing on May 13, 2023.
Doug was a dedicated carpenter from his teenage years until his retirement from Bishop Construction in 2006. He took great pride in his work and the life he built with his hands. He was an avid golfer and spent many summers playing in a league at Southmoor Golf Course, where he found both joy and friendship.
He was a man of integrity who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Family meant everything to him, and he especially cherished time with his grandchildren—whether it was a trip to the donut shop or going out for ice cream, those simple moments meant the most.
He is survived by his son, Douglas (Chris) Chartrand; daughter, Laura (David) Dollinger; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Chartrand. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin Chartrand, Cecily (Andy) Sweers, Melissa (Trent) Baird, Lucas Dollinger, Adam (Shannon) Chartrand, Emily (Adrian) Esh, and Olivia (Dax) Bacca; and five great-grandchildren, Noelle, Jameson, Jaron, Julia and Ezra. He is further survived by his sister, Darlene (Patrick) Boggs, and brother, Daniel (Sheila) Chartrand.
Douglas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Gene Chartrand; his son, Bryan Chartrand; his parents, Jerome and Ruth Chartrand; his four sisters, Louise Walker, Jackie Dekelaita, Rosemary Burns, and Christine Bowen; and his four brothers, Tom Chartrand, Bud Chartrand, Steven Chartrand, and Eugene Chartrand.
