MANTEI, Werner C. – of Flushing, age 74, died peacefully on Friday, January 21, 2022, at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church – 17994 Lincoln Rd., in New Lothrop. Rev. Fr. John Cotter officiating. Burial to follow in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Monday from 12PM until 8PM, and at the church on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. A vigil service will be held at 7PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
Werner was born August 10, 1947, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Werner and Viola (Chaput) Mantei. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School. Werner married Joanne Gillean on April 4, 1970, and together they had 3 children. Mr. Mantei is a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from General Motors – Buick in 2000 after 30 years of service. Werner was also a builder and building inspector for Lincoln Township for many years. He was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Werner was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and volunteer firefighter with Thetford Township. He enjoyed antique cars, and spending time up north – especially in Lewiston. Werner’s true passion was building and remodeling, he took great pride in his work. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Surviving are: Daughters: Lorrie (Matthew) Steinley, and Lisa (Andrew) Wolford; Son, Gregory (Valerie) Mantei; Grandchildren: Loren Steinley (Tyler), Andrew Wolford, Morgan (Michael) Vasquez, Alexis Mantei, Austin Wolford, Logan Wolford, Alexander Wolford, Caleb Mantei, Leah Mantei, and Kade Mantei; 2 great granddaughters: Maliyah and Malayna Vasquez; Former wife and friend, Joanne Mantei; Siblings: John (Donna) Mantei, and Freda (Phil) Beckley; Many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and dear friends.
