CONANT, Alvin E. - of Fenton, MI, and Punta Gorda FL, slipped from the bonds of earth and marched into heaven at age 91 on March 14, 2018. Cremation has taken place and the services will be private for the family.
Alvin was born in Flint, Michigan on October 17, 1926. As a boy he had one of the largest paper routes in the Flint area. Alvin graduated from Flint Central High School, after which he enrolled at GMI and worked at Buick Motor Division for 35 years. After retirement in 1982, he briefly subcontracted with General Motors as a Current Product Engineer, based in Burbank, California. Upon completion of his contract, Alvin moved to Florida and later volunteered at the Attorney General's office in Lemon Law Arbitration and also volunteered for the Cape Coral Police Neighborhood Patrol. His many activities and hobbies included: golf, fishing, boating, and water sports. He enjoyed woodworking, including making custom pipes and tobacco mixes to sell at charity fundraisers for GCARC. He also loved fishing and boating in Florida waters, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Alvin is survived by: his children, Gregory Edward Conant, Sharon Light (Ralph), Jim Ploucha (Phoebe), and Larry Ploucha (Janet); grandchildren, Matthew Edward Conant (Emily), Sarah Elizabeth Conant, Kathryn Elaine Conant, and Tracey Light Howard (John); great-grandchildren, Michael Edward Conant, Moira Kaye Conant, and Scott Howard. He will be sadly missed by his longtime friend, Red Bjurman; and many others.
Alvin was preceded in death by: his parents, Edward and Ina Marie Conant; sister, Evelyn Bush (Howard); wives, Bobbie Jean and Leotta Marie; daughter-in-law, Patricia Kaye Conant; and great-grandson, Alan Edward Conant.
