Rodney Philip Gebhardt- of Burton, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Miracle Network at Hurley, in Rodney’s memory.
He was born on January 22, 1936, to Philip and Margaret (Haber) Gebhardt. On March 11, 1961, Rodney married the love of his life, Virginia Tankersley, beginning a marriage that spanned more than six decades and was the foundation of a strong and loving family.
Rodney dedicated 42 years of hard work and loyalty to Flint Welding Supply, where he built lifelong friendships and was known for his dependability and work ethic.
An avid outdoorsman, Rodney loved getting lost in the woods during hunting season and never minded taking on the role he jokingly referred to as “camp bitch,” always making sure everyone else was taken care of. In 1995, when his first grandchild was born, Rodney proudly embraced a new title—becoming a full-fledged grandpa; known for his gentle heart, quiet humor, and deep love for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger; children, Randy (Michelle) Gebhardt, Blake Gebhardt, Courtney (Michael) Irish, and Amy (Harlow) Measel; and his cherished grandchildren: Madison (Devin) LaMere, Chase Gebhardt, Ethan Irish, and Emmersyn Irish and great granddaughter Lainey LaMere. He is also survived by his sisters Nan Jean Popovits, Sheryl (Gary) Bolton, and Barbara Prim; sister-in-law Patricia Adams; brother-in-law Ken (Margaret) Tankersley; and several nieces and nephews.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Margaret (Haber) Gebhardt; his sister Karen White; his brother Phillip Gebhardt; his father-in-law Connie Tankersley; his mother-in-law Catherine (Slough) Tankersley; his sister-in-law Katherine Dumont; and his brother-in-law Leroy Tankersley.
Rodney will be remembered for his steady presence, his dry sense of humor, his love of the outdoors, and the quiet way he showed his love—by simply always being there. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply.
