Passed away peacefully on Sep 10, 2026, at home.
A Memorial will be celebrated with family and friends on Thursday, October 1, 2026 with visitation from 3-6 pm and a service to follow at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Jo was born June 4, 1929, the daughter of Earl Scheid and Escellie (Henry) Scheid. She was born and raised in Saranac, Michigan and after graduating from Saranac High School in 1947, Jo moved on to her beloved Michigan State College (MSU). Jo graduated from MSU in 1951 with a degree in Education and began teaching in Milford. It was at Milford where she met her future husband, Robert ‘Bob’ Lichty. After teaching stints in Milford and Birmingham Bob and Jo were married on Aug 15, 1954. They had three children. Doug, Nancy and Curt. They moved to Flint in 1955 when her husband Bob accepted a job teaching physics at General Motors Institute. They lived in Flint for the rest of their lives.
Jo’s greatest joy was her family and spending time with them. She was a long-time member of Spring Meadows Country Club and loved playing golf with Bob and her kids. She even had 2 hole-in-one’s. Jo also enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards (Euchre was a favorite) and playing the piano. She had a love of music, and she passed that love on to her kids, especially Nancy. She always had sports on TV; especially the Tigers, Golf, and MSU football and basketball. Jo loved visiting the TC house with family and sitting on the porch looking at the water, it was one of her favorite spots.
Preceding her in death was her husband Bob, her daughter Nancy (Lichty) Heard, and her parents, Earl and Escellie Scheid.
Surviving are her sons, Doug (Therese) Lichty and Curt (Martha) Lichty and Son-in-Law Don Heard. Her Grandchildren: Matt (Kristi) Lichty, Rachel Lichty, Elizabeth Heard (Andrew) David, Rebecca Heard, Joseph Lichty, Daniel Lichty, Graham Lichty. 2 Great-grandchildren: Aria and Henry Lichty.
We want to thank her caregivers- especially Sandy, Kali, Tiana, Mary, Debbie, Dee Dee, Julie, Rachel, Janice, Merlin and Lee Ann, Tarra and several others over the years who took exceptional care of her at home. Also, to the staff at Vicinia and to our friend Jen the fabulous nurse.
