VANDERKUUR, John Leonard III – of Flint, MI, age 78, passed away on December 5th, 2020 at McLaren Flint Hospital. A private Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant.
A celebration of John’s life memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
John III was born in Flint, MI on May 19th, 1942, son of the late John II and Lillian (Swanda). He graduated from St Michaels in 1960. He married Catherine Ann Brooks on July 13th, 1963 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint, MI. John started work at Chevrolet V-8 engine plant in 1961. In 1962, he was invited to join the Buick Motor Division toolmaker apprenticeship program. In 1968, Cathy and John joined The Flint Motorcycle Club where she was the ‘Trophy Lady’ and he was score keeper. He retired from Buick Motor Division as Lead Toolmaker after 38 years of service. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus #11532- Burton where he was initiated as first Grand Knight and achieved 4th degree honors. John’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, racing motorcycles, IndyCar racing and most of all family time.
John is survived by wife, Catherine; three children- Joyce (Jeff) Horton, John (Julie) and Mike (Marie); grandchildren: Chandler, Tyler, Stephen, John V, Megan, Alexis and Tori; siblings, Dennis (Cindy), Lillian (Lewie) and Laura and many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Greg and grandson, Michael.
