Age: 86
Community: Lapeer, MI

Thomas E. Reed, known affectionately as Tom to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, at the age of 86 in Lapeer, Michigan. Born on February 15, 1938, in Flint, Michigan, Tom was a man of integrity and warmth whose presence enriched the lives of those around him.

Tom's early years in Flint were the foundation of a life characterized by service and dedication. His commitment to his community was evident through his work as a volunteer fireman for the city of Flint in the 1960s. He continued to protect and serve as part of the Davison fire authority in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Tom's strong work ethic was also displayed in his longstanding career at General Motors, from which he retired in 1994 after many years of faithful service.

Beyond his professional life, Tom was a man of diverse interests and talents. He had a passion for collecting antique fire trucks, a hobby that allowed him to connect with fellow enthusiasts and preserve a piece of firefighting history. The thrill of the hunt was a joy for Tom, whether he was deer hunting in the woods, discovering treasures at auctions, or finding bargains at yard sales.

Those who knew Tom would describe him as loving, kind, and intelligent. He had a way of making each person feel valued, and his guidance was sought by many. Tom's family was the centerpiece of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his children, Michael (Michelle) Reed and Rhonda (David) Whitehead; his adoring six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert and Martha; his daughter Brenda; his great-granddaughter Kaleigh; and his siblings Jim, Ted, Nancy, and Marge. His passing marks the end of an era for the Reed family, but his spirit will continue to live on through the stories and memories shared by his loved ones.

Cremation has taken place, and a private memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Tom may be made to any volunteer fire department.
