Duvendeck, Janet Elaine of Flushing, Michigan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, in the loving care of her family and friends. Janet lived a faith-filled life, was devoted to her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a deeply religious woman whose life was a testament to her faith and is now in a better place in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2025, at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the profound impact she had on their lives from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at 11 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Janet was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on April 11, 1948, to Gerritt and Elva (Norman) Cook. She married Patrick Duvendeck, her loving husband of fifty-six years, on August 3, 1968.

She graduated from Waterford Kettering High School in 1966, and went on to Taylor University in Upland Indiana. She paused her education to begin her marriage and raise her four children and later resumed it at the University of Michigan – Flint. She Graduated as the Maize and Blue award winner of her department, she completed a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Development at Oakland University and went on to become a National Board Certified Teacher.

Her passion for teaching the early childhood age group began in her children and went on as she taught for 20 years in several schools in Genesee County, mostly teaching first grade. She was highly respected by her peers and administration and was selected as teacher of the year while at Randels Elementary. She was a friend and mentor to many other teachers and worked together with the administration to help on school improvement activities leaving an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Janet is survived by her devoted husband, Pat; sisters Brenda (Scott) Isham, Denice (Gary) Mincek and Beth (Bud) Williams. Her legacy continues through her children, Heather and husband Josh Sellers, Jeremy and wife Dawn, Jeffrey and wife Breanne and JP and wife Alicia; and her 14 grandchildren, Cameron, Cooper, Nathan, Gabriel, Faith, Serena, Elise, Isaiah, Kinzie, Caleb, Miles, Evelyn, Isabelle, and Violet. Also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Gail Mills and Lorna Schafer.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their support during this difficult time, with a special thank you to our family members, friends and McLaren Hospice.As we remember Janet, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, faith, and generosity. She will be deeply missed, but her heart will live on in those whose lives she touched.
