Marie Antonia Bartkovich

Born: 6/30/1942
Died: 12/16/2025
Age: 83
Community: Oscoda, formerly of Flushing, MI

Marie Antonia (Pintar) Bartkovich, age 83, of Oscoda, Michigan, passed away on December 16, 2025. She was born on June 30, 1942, in Flint, Michigan, to Selma (Heikkinen) and George Pintar.

Marie was a loving wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother whose kindness and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. She graduated from Flint Northern High School and Northern Michigan University. On February 27, 1965, she married the love of her life, James Lawrence Bartkovich. Earlier this year, Marie and Jim celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, a milestone that reflected a lifetime of partnership, devotion, and love.

Marie dedicated her career to education as an elementary school teacher, teaching most of her years at Carpenter Road Elementary School, where she made a lasting impact on countless students. She and Jim raised their three children in Flushing, Michigan, before retiring nearly 30 years ago and moving to their home on Cedar Lake in Oscoda, a place she came to love deeply.

Artistic by nature, Marie loved all crafts, especially quilting, where every stitch was made with love. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, and games, and she cherished her friendships and time spent playing card games and Mahjong at the Lakewood Shores Clubhouse.

Above all, Marie was the sweetest and kindest person, endlessly loving and generous. She cherished her children and doted on her grandchildren. Her warmth, patience, and quiet strength will be remembered always.

She is survived by her beloved husband, James Bartkovich; her children, Jill Vaughan, Douglas (Ann) Bartkovich, and Pamela (Robert) Priddy; her grandchildren, Cole Vaughan, Jack Vaughan, Luke Vaughan, Logan Bartkovich, Noah (Sydney) Bartkovich, Sophie Bartkovich, Peter Kingman, and Blake Kingman; her great-granddaughters, Lilah Bell and Rosemary Bartkovich; her sister, Lenone Strickland; and many extended grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2025, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Brian Lenz will officiate. A private burial will take place at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, in honor of Marie’s nearly 50-year journey living with multiple sclerosis, which she faced with grace and quiet strength.
