Grand Blanc, MI — Catherine "Cathy" Michalak, a woman of profound faith, deep love, and tireless service to others, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026. She was 88 years old.

Visitation will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed at 7pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc.

Cathy was raised in a devout Irish Catholic family, inheriting a rich legacy of faith from her grandparents who immigrated from Ireland, and her parents, Anthony and Mary Michalak.

Growing up alongside her brother, Dennis, and her sisters, Margaret and Phyllis, Cathy attended St. Agnes, Sacred Heart, and St. Mary’s Mt. Morris schools.

Her early devotion led her to enter the convent, though she later chose to return home to lovingly care for her invalid mother. Before embarking on her long professional career, Cathy shared her love for dance with her community, owning and operating a dance studio where she taught tap and ballet. She later hired into General Motors - A.C. Spark Plugs, dedicating 32 years of hard work and retiring as a proud member of UAW Local 651.

An adventurous spirit, Cathy loved to travel. She felt incredibly blessed to have visited all 50 states and all of Canada, and she thoroughly enjoyed taking many cruises throughout her lifetime.

Above all, Cathy was a devoted Catholic whose life was a testament to the love of God. She was a long-time, active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc, where she worked and volunteered for many years. Cathy took great joy in teaching both children and adult
religion classes, leading bible studies, and hosting prayer groups. Her ministry reached far beyond the church walls; she spent her life working with the sick, the dying, and street people.

Known as a deeply holy woman, Cathy constantly prayed for those in need and laid hands on anyone who asked for prayers—even strangers would reach out just to touch her, sensing her peaceful and loving grace. She lived her life rooted in divine love and always made sure to tell others that she loved them.
In her later years, Cathy enjoyed staying active by taking classes at the Grand Blanc Senior Center, where she developed deep, lasting bonds with many dear friends who truly became her family.

She is survived by her loving circle of friends who became family, including Gayle DeGrow, Mark and Rose Piechowski, Melodye Martin, Sister Sharon, her forever prayer partner Clare Landrigan, Karen Cassing & family, and Reggie and Pat Gaines.

Cathy's family and friends wish to extend a special message written in her own words: "Thank you Gayle, Mark, and Rose for helping me to carry my cross."

Cathy’s family would also like to give a special thanks to Compassus Hospice for the excellent care that they gave. Especially Jenifer McAvoy, Victoria and all the staff. Thank you!

Would also like to give a special thanks to Wellbridge of Fenton.
