Emma Bertha Fisher

Born: 11/10/1907
Died: 8/16/2011
Age: 103
Community: Mt. Morris, MI

Emma Bertha Damme was born November 10, 1907 to Andrew and Dora (Weber) Damme at Logan, Iowa. The family moved to Wyoming in 1912 where Emma started her formal schooling. In 1917 the family moved to a farm near Elgin, Nebraska. Emma graduated from the Elgin High School in 1927. After attending normal school at Wayne, Nebraska that summer, she took her first teaching job that fall. For the next ten years she taught all eight grades in rural Nebraska schools.

On May 24, 1937 she married Paul Fisher at Neligh, Nebraska and the couple established their home on a ranch south of Amelia, Nebraska. Two daughters were born to them: Margaret Elaine and Dorothy Ann. Emma was involved in the daily operation of the ranch as well as raising a large garden, canning the harvest, sewing clothing and beautiful quilts for her family and friends, teaching Sunday School and Bible School, helping the needy in her community and being a faithful friend to all she came in contact with. One of her many talents that children of the community will remember her for is her ability to make any story she told live in their minds and their memories. She was still telling stories to church children when she was well into her nineties. It was her desire to use all her talents to serve the Lord faithfully.

In the fall of 1992 Paul and Emma moved to Mount Morris, Michigan to be near their daughters and grandchildren. Paul died in Flint, MI in 1994 but Emma continued to live in her little house until she reached the age on 101. After that she divided her time between her two daughters. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with Dorothy during the winter months in Lakeland, Florida. She died at Dorothy's home in Mount Morris, Michigan on August 16, 2011.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday, August 19, 2011 at New Covenant Free Methodist Church in Clio. Visitation will be at the O’Guinn Family Funeral home in Clio on Thursday from 6-8 PM. She will lie in-state at New Covenant Free Methodist Church from 11 AM until the time of the service. After the funeral service in Michigan she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Chambers, Nebraska. If you wish to make a gift to honor Emma's life please feel free to make it either to Gideons International or Oakdale Christian School in Jackson, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, her four brothers Clarence, Merrill, Lesly and William (Bill), her sister Gladys and her son-in-law Merle West. She is survived by her daughters Elaine (Lynn) Myers and Dorothy West; five grandchildren: Tim (Debbie) Myers, Sherry (Robert) Rosenberger, Merle (Kathy) West, Diane (Roger) York and Mark West; twelve great-grandchildren: David (Angie) Myers, Jeri (Chris) Perkins, Amanda (Matthew) Rossman, Katie and Brenna West, Bethany York, Matthew West, Rachel York, Miranda, Maggie and Martina West and Joshua York; three great-great grandchildren: Clayton and Blake Myers and Addie Rossman, her sister Phyllis Hemenway and a sister-in-law Lucille Damme plus many nieces, nephews and friends.
