Tom lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, generosity, and service to others.
Born on May 21, 1949, Tom was the beloved son of the late Kenneth and Rosemarie (Quaderer) Ferguson. He was a proud graduate of Davison High School, class of 1967. Tom went on to serve his country with distinction in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, including a tour in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. After his military service, Tom returned home and married his wife Joanne Evans, with whom he spent 56 years sharing a beautiful life centered on love and family. Together, they raised three children: Shawn (Rod) Hoover, Chantel (Dan) Doyle and Grant Ferguson. Tom’s spirit and wisdom live on in his four grandchildren Tanner (Lauren) Barrett, Brielle Doyle, Hudson Doyle, and Eleanora Ferguson as well as his great-grandchildren Elle, Luke, and Beau Barrett.

Tom began his career in construction in 1975, working alongside his brother-in-law, Charles McCarter. He went on to purchase the business in 1986. Geodesic Domes Inc., United Church Structures and FoWin Brand Windows were companies led with integrity, dedication and an entrepreneurial spirit. These companies are responsible for helping construct hundreds of churches and homes across the country. His creativity and ingenuity were evident in his designs, including the Omni building and decorative false windows. Throughout his career, Tom mentored countless young carpenters, sharing his strong work ethic and commitment to doing things the right way. Among his many accomplishments was the development of Carriage Crossing Estates subdivision alongside his dear friend, Carl Elliott.

Tom was deeply committed to his faith and community. A member of Davison Free Methodist Church for more than 30 years, he quietly lived his faith through kindness, generosity, and service. He was an active supporter of the Kiwanis Club, where he was honored as Kiwanian of the Year. He was also a proud recipient of the Good Scout Award, recognizing his meaningful contributions to the community.
Outside of his professional and community endeavors, Tom enjoyed spending time in Traverse City and on Anna Maria Island. He and Joanne especially cherished their scenic drives together. Above all, his greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his family, and few roles brought him more joy than being “Papa.”

Tom was known for his kindness, humor, generosity, and remarkable ability to remember everyone he met. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a man who gave freely of himself, valued relationships, and believed in the importance of family and tradition.

Tom was preceded in death by five siblings, Rosemarie Ferguson, Theresa Ferguson, Genevieve “Jenny” Scharrer, Sally Whitney, and James Ferguson; In-Laws, Don Ashworth, Bud Whitney III, Wayne Ellis and Charles McCarter. He is survived by eight siblings, Mary Lou McCarter, Charles (Linda) Ferguson, Ann Ferguson, Kenneth Ferguson Jr., Richard (Susie) Ferguson, Nancy (Phil) Kus, Kathryn Ashworth and Lynn (Ken) Travis; In-Laws, Steve Scharrer and Tammy Ferguson; extended family member, Kathy Schupp; many other family; his breakfast club and dear friends.
His legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly, the community he helped build, and the countless lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
