Byron Hourtienne, was born on November 7th, 1929 to J.F. and Agnes Hourtienne. He grew up on the family farm in Millington, MI with his three brothers: Bernard, Robert, and Ronald. All attended Millington schools, where Dad had fond memories of his undefeated football team and talented track team. Byron held Millington High School records for both the 100m and 200m dash for over 50 years.
Byron was employed by General Motors at the Fisher Body plant in Flint, MI for 38 years. Following retirement, he kept the family farm running until 2025.
He enjoyed his northern Michigan retreat near Cadillac, where he hunted, fished, and enjoyed time with close friends. His favorite memories were following the quality careers and sporting activities of his children and grandchildren.
Byron loved cards and played in countless euchre tournaments. He spent hours with family and friends around the dining room table of the farmhouse sharing life lessons (some children should hear, some not). The farm was constantly full of family, neighbors, and friends.
He leaves his son Larry, daughter-in-law Dee, son-in-law Lynn Wright, grandchildren Craig and April Wright, Lindsay and Dan Gibbons, Casey and Cathy Hourtienne, Mckensay and Jeremy Heinonen, Brady and Jacqueline Hourtienne, Landry and Tristen Hourtienne, and 18 great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
Preceding his death were parents J.F. and Agnes, brothers Bernard, Robert, Ronald, daughter Glenna Wright, and granddaughter Crystal Wright.
Special thanks to Heart-to-Heart Hospice, Kerri Cady, and Lynette Bobb for their special care. In lieu of flowers, we’d ask that you make a donation to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation www.cff.org/donate in remembrance of Byron’s granddaughter Crystal Wright |
