Uncle Bill. Willy. Carp. A beloved son, brother, uncle, friend passed peacefully surrounded by family after a brief but emphatic battle against cancer.
A 44-year season ticket holder for UM Football, Bill was a Michigan Man who was always thrilled by the maize and blue. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Lake George, was an avid coin collector and loved hunting and fishing. In fact, Bill caught a state record bluegill - a record that stands today.
A lifetime Clio resident, Bill graduated from Clio High School in 1970 and proceeded to join UAW Local 659 at GM’s Flint Engine Plant where he was an inspector on the engine line before enjoying retirement.
While these hobbies kept him busy, what thrilled Uncle Bill most was being the number one fan of his friends, siblings, nieces and nephews and especially his great nieces and nephews. He was incredibly dedicated to traveling the country to see his friends and family. As a sports fan, he was there to cheer on those he loved as they played hockey, golf and competed in figure skating.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Carpenter, Sr. and sister Lori Brewster. He is survived by his mother Rosemary Carpenter, brothers Craig and Scott Carpenter and sister Linda Rhodes, sisters-in-law Maria DeVries and Wendy Carpenter, brothers-in-law Kim Brewster and Alan Rhodes and extended family Claus, Iris and Alexander Kessler. He will be wonderfully missed by nieces Lindsay Carpenter (Jon Mason), Amy Kelly (Ryan), Elle Carpenter Mason and Mari Kelly and nephews Matt Brewster (Meaghan), Trevor Carpenter, Michael Rhodes, Steven Rhodes, Joel Carpenter, Max Brewster, Jay Mason, Jack Brewster and Charlie Brewster.
A private celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the days ahead.
