ST JOHN, Mary Ann – of Davison, age 85, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Cremation will follow the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Davison Historical Society.
Mary Ann was born in Clare, MI on December 15, 1928, daughter of the late William and Dora (Hutchinson) Horton. She lived in the Davison area her entire life. Mary Ann married Clare St John on August 20, 1949 and raised two daughters and one son. She loved her family and the time spent with them, especially at the family cottage at Higgins Lake. Birthdays were always a special occasion to be celebrated. Mary Ann was an avid fisherwoman. In summer, she would be in the boat wearing her famous fishing outfit or winter spending time in the ice shanty. There was no time like the present to go fishing. When family and friends were together, she would demonstrate her ability to tell jokes and give everyone a lesson in the correct manner to play pinochle, euchre or any other card game.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clare St John; daughters, Nancy (Skip) Davis of Davison, Jamie (Luther) Greer of Grayling; brother, David (Marjorie) Horton of Davison; granddaughters, Stephanie (Josh), Jessica, Darcy; grandson, Bryan (Leslie); and four great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her son, Lee; brothers, Robert and William.
