Annie Mae (Welch) Carlton’s beautiful soul entered Heaven on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at her home in Norfork, Arkansas with her family by her side. She was 85 years old. Annie was born on January 21, 1941, to Melvin and Mildred Welch in West Memphis, Arkansas. Annie attended West Memphis High School, where she graduated in 1958 as valedictorian of her class. Annie was the second oldest of eight children, which included Shirley, Annie, William, Patricia, Grover, Ronnie, Charles, and Carl.

Annie moved to Michigan in 1958 where she met and married her former husband, Glen Carlton, and raised two wonderful children, Craig and Juanita. Annie loved music. She played piano and used her beautiful voice as choir director at Berean Baptist Church in Grand Blanc, Michigan for many years. Annie was a mail sorting clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Flint, Michigan from 1963-1971, manager of Dawn Donuts in Grand Blanc for many years before becoming a waitress at Howard Johnson’s in Flint, Michigan, Forward’s Restaurant in West Branch, Michigan and Western Sizzlin’, in Mountain Home, Arkansas until 2020 when she retired at the age of 80. Annie loved her church in Jordan, Arkansas, where she worshipped and served the Lord faithfully until her illness.

Annie is survived by her two children, Craig (Debbie) Carlton and Juanita “Nita” Carlton, all of Davison, Michigan; four grandchildren, Jamie (Kristi), Jenny (Matt), Jarod (Courtnea), and Jessica; 16 great grandchildren, Amelia, Kailan, Bella, Addison, Allisha (Justin), Alexis (Jake), Amelia (Brandon), Alayna, Jaxson, Maxwell, Levi, Noah, Gabriel, Ezekiel, Jonah, and Micah; four great-great grandchildren, Milah, Octavia, Emberleigh, and Justyn; her siblings, Shirley Liles, William (Gloria) Welch, Grover (Pam) Welch, Ronnie (Candy) Welch, and Charles Welch; special nieces and nephews, Rhonda Guy, Mykal, Brayden, Aurora, Ernie and Sarah Stephens and special friend, Pam Barger.

Those waiting in heaven are her parents; sister, Patricia Stephens; brother, Carl Welch and great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Samuel.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Ozarks, especially R.N., Eric, for their care and kindness. Memorials can be made in her name to Hospice of the Ozarks, 811 Burnett Drive, Mountain Home, AR 72653.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 3:00 pm at 983 Sheid Rd, Norfork, Arkansas 72658. The family welcomes all visitors.
