STOKES, Janet Louise (Allen) – of Davison, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home on July 5, 2026, with her son, Timothy, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie, lovingly by her side. In accordance with Janet’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place and she will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc at a later date.
Janet was born on July 11, 1931, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Jack Allen and Louise Goodwin. After losing her father at the age of one, she was lovingly raised by her mother alongside her extended family on Melbourne Avenue in Flint. She graduated from Flint Technical High School. Fate brought Janet together with the love of her life, Charles J. “Bud” Stokes, on a blind date at a Halloween party in 1949. They were married in January 1951 and built a beautiful life together, raising four children and creating a home centered on love, family, and faith. Janet had a lifelong love of travel and was fortunate to explore much of the world. Her journeys took her as far west as Australia and as far east as Russia. Some of her greatest joys came from sharing those adventures with her family, who were blessed to create lasting memories alongside her. Giving back to others was important to Janet. She dedicated more than 31 years as a volunteer at McLaren Hospital in Flint, where she also served as president of the McLaren Auxiliary for several years. She was a proud member of the Bradenton P.E.O. chapter beginning in 1988. She had also been a Guardian Ad litem for many years in Manatee County, where she advocated on behalf of many children. Her Christian faith was a guiding force throughout her life and was reflected in the kindness, generosity, and quiet grace she extended to everyone she met. In 1988, Janet and Bud purchased a home on Anna Maria Island, Florida, which quickly became the family’s cherished gathering place. Countless holidays, vacations, and special moments were shared there, making it a place filled with treasured memories for generations.
Janet is survived by her sons, David (Leslie) Stokes and Timothy (Bonnie) Stokes; her daughter-in-law, Laurie (Randy) Reed; her grandchildren, Kristen (Tim) O’Connell, Caitlin (Dan) Murdock, Sarah (Matthew) Iwanski, Kelsey Stokes; seven great-grandchildren; and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles J. “Bud” Stokes; her son, James Stokes; her daughter, Diane Stokes-Burchett; and her grandson, Nicholas Stokes.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for Janet throughout her life and especially to those who surrounded her with love and compassion in her final days. Her kindness, adventurous spirit, unwavering devotion to her family, and quiet strength will be remembered always.
