SOLOMON, Paul – Of Grand Blanc, age 83, died Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Regency at Grand Blanc.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at
Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,

Father Steve Anderson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or Greater Flint Area Baseball-Softball Association.

Visitation 3-8pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Monday evening at the funeral home. A Knights of Columbus Memorial Service will be held 6:30pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Solomon will be at the church 10am Tuesday until the time of the Mass.

Paul was born in Flint, MI on March 19, 1931, the son of Samuel and Mary (Joseph) Solomon, and was a resident of the Flint area and Grand Blanc most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; achieving the rank of Sergeant during the conflict. He married Vivian Smrekar on May 29, 1954 at All Saints Catholic Church in Flint and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2007. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church since 1954; working at their church bingo for over 40 years. He was also a member of the 55 and Over Senior Group, Knights of Columbus Council #6742 and 4th Degree Council #0510. Mr. Solomon worked for Merchant’s Paper and Twine, which owned the Save-More drug store chain in Flint up until the 1970’s He then returned to General Motors Fisher Body 1, retiring in 1988. He was also “THE” bus driver for St. Thomas More Academy in Burton. He was also a volunteer parking lot coach driver at Genesys Hospital.

Surviving are his son, Steven P. (Kari) Solomon;

daughter, Johanna M. (Robert) Scanlon;

two grandsons, Bryan Solomon and Charles P. Scanlon;

sister, Rose (Sam) Trigg of Jupiter, Florida;

several nieces and nephews.

Special mention to Paul, Mike, Wayne, Jack, Helen and Gary at the Greater Flint Baseball Association at Broome Park. His other joy in life.
