Cotton, Orvall Morris of Flushing, age 87, died Thursday, April 10, 2025, at McLaren-Flint. Cremation has taken place, and a private memorial service will be held. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the United Negro College Fund.
Orvall was born in Hubbardston, Michigan on July 19, 1937, the son of Percy and Armintha (Manning) Cotton. Orvall was a superior athlete, playing football, basketball, baseball and track and receiving All-State recognition in all sports from Carson City High School. Orvall was the first of his family to attend college. He began Michigan State Normal College and graduated with his bachelor’s degree from what is now known as Eastern Michigan University. Orvall was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. After graduation, he enrolled in Dental School at Howard University in Washington D.C. During his time there, he began working as a Chemist at Cendu Cosmetics, an African American Cosmetics Line. Orvall later moved to the Flint area and worked for General Motors for over 25 years. Orvall was an enthusiastic sports fan who loved Michigan football and all Detroit sports, especially the Lions and Tigers. He enjoyed bird watching and was an avid reader.
Orvall is survived by his children, Randi Cotton of Ann Arbor, Glenn Cotton of Flushing; grandchildren, Nigel Cotton of Portugal, Sierra Cotton of Chicago, and Justin Cotton of Los Angeles; and cousin, Raymond Pointer, Jr. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmen in 1994; second wife, Anna Loviska-Cotton in 2015; his parents; brother, Elwyne; sister, Martha; and Aunt, Rowena.
