GEAN, Elmer E. - Of Flint, age 93, joined the love of his life of 65 years, Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.

Visitation 5-8pm Sunday and 2-8pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Masonic Lodge #490 F. & A.M. will conduct a Memorial Service 7pm Sunday evening at the funeral home. Fenton VFW Post #3243 will hold a Memorial Service 7pm Monday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Westwood Heights Free Methodist Church, 3397 Windland Drive, Flint, MI. Mr. Gean will be at the church at 10am Tuesday.

Burial in Flint Memorial Park with Military Honors under the auspices of Fenton VFW Post #3243.

Elmer was born in Bald Knob, Arkansas on August 9, 1920, the son of Isom Green Gean and Mary Florence (Creager) Gean. He lived in the Flint area from 5 years of age and attended Hoover High School. Elmer served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II enlisting February 21, 1942 and was Honorably Discharged November 8, 1945. He was stationed in San Francisco, Australia and New Guinea, where he drove a supply truck transporting food, ammunition, and bombs to the troops. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star. He was a Lieutenant in the Honor Guard of the VFW Post #3243 in Fenton, Michigan. Elmer married Rubean Lacy on September 28, 1946 in Flint at First General Baptist Church and they remained sweethearts until the day she died. Some of the places he worked as a Welder were Kaiser Aluminum in West Virginia, the St Lawrence Seaway in New York, Dow Chemical and General Motors in Michigan. Elmer (Elmo) worked as a Tool & Die Welder in several plants in the Flint area including Plant 38 retiring from Plant 2A (down in the hole) September of 1983 with 29 years of service. He was a proud member of the UAW Local #659 and IBEW #692. Elmer belonged to Fellowship Lodge #490 F. & A.M., serving as Worshipful Master in 1979. He was elected Mason of the Year in 2001. He was a member of Elf Khurafeh Shrine Temple, the Bay City Consistory, and Past Patron of Fenton OES #248.

Survivors are his loving children, Pamela and husband Kevin Stiff of Flint, Philip Gean and wife Judith of Burton, Patricia Gean and friend Timothy Skinner of Millington;

7 Grandchildren, Kirk Wells, Jr, Wendy and husband Anthony Muzzarelli, John Judson and wife Kate, Jason Judson and wife Kelley, Amanda and husband Ryan Thero, Shane Mohr and wife Krystal, and Shawn Mohr;

10 Great-Grandchildren, MaryLynn Spillers, Rachel Priest, Alena Judson, Paige Muzzarelli, Victoria Muzzarelli, Kathryn Muzzarelli, Bently Mohr, Zoey Judson, Gideon Thero, Liam Judson, and Hannah Thero;

Brother Leon Gean of Phoenix, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Rubean Lacy Gean, Granddaughter, Marcy Spillers; Great-Grandson John Henry Priest; 4 sisters, Pearlie Rose, Daisy Mince, Jewell Richardson, and Eunice Chapman; and 2 brothers Basil Gean and B. Duaine Gean.
