James “Dave” David Mathews, age 69, Flint, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at his home. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the family.
Dave was born on June 9, 1957 in Flint the son of the late James and Myra (Cook) Mathews. He was a 1975 graduate from Carman High School. Dave worked for 25 years at A/C Delco until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors walking his dog Muttley, bicycling and fishing. Dave liked a challenge by fixing everything he could. His most cherished time was spent with his children and grandchildren, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his 3 children, Sarah (Brian) Smith, Krystal (Dave) Vandergraaf and David (Melinda) Mathews; 10 grandchildren, Carter, Ryan, Chase, Myles, Morgen, Cole, Austin, Tyler, Tiana and Justice; 5 siblings, Brenda (Don) Becker, Joan Zimmerman, Barbara Mathews, Ricky Mathews and Gary (Ann) Mathews; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Char Mathews; 2 brothers, Timmy and Jerry Mathews. Tributes can be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com |
