Died: 11/9/2025
Age: 101
Community: Flushing, MI

Barber, Wayne James of Flushing, age 101, died Sunday, November 9, 2025, at his home. He was born in Middlebury Township, Michigan on May 4, 1924, to parents Fred J. and Hila Mae Barber. He was one of seven children.

Wayne grew up on the farm with no electricity, no running water, or indoor plumbing. Everyone took a horse and buggy into town for supplies. Wayne attended Blood School in Middlebury Township until the 8th grade. That is when he was diagnosed with TB and spent the next year in Ann Arbor Hospital.

In 1943, Wayne was drafted into the Army Air Force. He became a certified electrician and mechanic for P-47 Thunderbolts and served most of his time in Europe.

In 1946, he married June A. Buecking and they had three children. In 1975, he was remarried to Barabara Jean Dewey.

Wayne worked for General Motors for 40 years. He a “go-to” guy in the neighborhood for almost any electrical, mechanical or plumbing problem. He loved his church and volunteered in many capacities there, including leading Boy Schout troops for many years. He was active at the Flushing Senior Center and volunteered there until his mid-80’s.

In his “spare time” Wayne played with trains. He was obsessed with model rail-roading and became the repair man for most of the hobby shops in Flint and for most model train collectors in the area.

At his passing at age 101, Wayne leaves behind three children, Anne, David and Glen; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Wayne will be buried at Flushing Cemetery with a private ceremony.
