GAUTHIER, Joseph Bernard. – of Clio, was called to the Lord on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the age of 90. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church, 230 E. Vienna St. in Clio. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Monday from 1PM until 8PM, and at the church on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 7PM Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Joe, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Joe was born March 16, 1929 in Black River, Michigan to the late Dolphus and Melvina Gauthier. He was one of the youngest of 17 children, of whom Loretta, Clifford and Everett survive him. Joe served his country from 1951 until 1952, spending most of his time in Germany as a mess cook. He married the love of his life, Aleta Lee on Valentines Day of 1953. Together they chose to raise their family in Flint. With deep joy and sadness, Bern is now reunited with his love. Through hard work, Joe committed over 32 years to General Motors as a crane operator. He was known to be consistent, loyal, kind and fair to his family and friends. Joe was best known to his friends as "Bern", to his grandkids, "Grandpa Buckshot", and to his great grandkids, "Grandpa Shot-Shot". He loved nothing more than to provide for his family and bring them joy. Joe retired to Presque Isle, Michigan, where he maintained a summer vacation home on Grand Lake for himself and his family. Joe enjoyed wintering in Lakeland, Florida. His later years were spent in Clio, surrounded by the same family he loved so much to provide.

Joe is survived by: Daughters: Deborah (Gary) Crow, Denise (Mervin) Eggert, and Teresa Gleason; 6 grandchildren: Brigette, Bradley (Laura), Joseph (Monica “Mona”), Michael (Sylvia), Paul (Karen), and Lauren (Jacob); He enjoyed 12 great grandchildren: Rick “Buckshot”, Annalycia, Kadey, Michelle, Morgan, Justice, Julius, Little Joe, Mikaylynn, Ainsley, Elijah, and Miles; Closest and dearest friend, Vera LaVigne; Many nieces and nephews.
