Joy Rene was born in Flint, Michigan on September 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Arthur and Helen (Sellers) Stevenson. She married Russell Schaffer on October 5, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1981. She later married Lew Richardson and he passed away in May of 1994. Joy Rene was “spunky”. She traveled all over the United States with Russell on their motorcycle and enjoyed evening rides with their friends. They traveled across the country to join her cousin Marylou and her husband to explore the western states. She loved children and became a storyteller with the Flint Schools until her Grandma fix was met with the arrival of her first grandchild, Brandon. When Kory, the youngest grandchild was at Springview school, she became a “grandma helper” for 17 years and was known as Grandma Joy to the school children. When she was married to Lew, they loved to go square dancing. Joy Rene loved to travel and went all over the world. She took her daughters on several wonderful trips abroad. Joy Rene was very active in the Second Church and then the First Church of Christ Scientist, Flint. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society and Flushing Senior Center where she loved to play Bunco. Joy Rene was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards and was still playing in a group that was founded when she worked at Michigan Bell in the 50's. Joy Rene also loved playing Euchre and Cribbage. She loved her family and friends and was always there for them whenever they needed anything, whether it was babysitting, dog sitting or helping with craft shows.

Joy Rene is survived by her two daughters, GayLynn (Doug) Kinter, Merrie (Peter) Raab; four grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Kinter, Aubrie (Dave) Main, Shannon Raab, Kory (fiancee Lauren Kelley) Kinter and great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Grace Main.
