Richard Ross Gulliver, 89, of Reese, has made the journey home to his Lord and Savior on March 22, 2018, after a brief illness. Richard was the son of the late Lorence Ray and Clara (Schultz) Gulliver He was born on March 27, 1928, in Saginaw. Richard married the former Jean Ann Schneider June 19, 1954 in Saginaw. She predeceased him seventeen years ago, November 9, 2000. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1946. As a young man, he worked at Harry Brown Airport and earned his pilot’s license. Richard served his country during the Korean Conflict, and has been a longtime member of Alvin F Miller Legion Post #400 in Richville, just relinquishing his role as financial officer in the summer of 2017, after 43 years serving in that one position. He was a proud member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union for 70 years, joining in 1948, He moved to Reese in 1954 and in 1959 opened and ran Gulliver Nursery at the same location for 60 years. Both Richard and his wife Jean Ann were active with the Caro Skill Center. Richard was an avid fan of vintage cars, and enjoyed the process of restoration. In recent years you may have seen Dick riding his bicycle or operating his tractor, loading mulch.

Richard leaves behind his four children Ann Schiefer Miller and husband Dan Miller of Tallahassee, FL; Loren Gulliver of Reese, Gregory Jon (Liza) Gulliver of Clio; and Eric (Nicole) Gulliver of Reese; five grandchildren, Derek Schiefer, Shelby Schiefer, Grace Miller, Joshua Gulliver and Kyle Gulliver. He also leaves behind a nephew and niece, Roger Thornton and Sue Thornton. In addition to his parents and wife Jean Ann, Dick was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Don Thornton.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Reverend Daniel Burhop will officiate with Committal Services to follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Full Graveside Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Alvin F. Miller American Legion Post #400. Mr. Gulliver’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese or the Alvin F. Miller American Legion Post #400 in Richville.
