Jones, Don of Flushing, age 83, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021, at his home. A private service will be held at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Masonic Lodge or the Flushing United Methodist Church.

Don was born in Madison, Kansas on July 13, 1937, the son of George and M. Lucille (Turner) Jones. His younger years were spent in the Croton-Newago area and later in Big Rapids. Don graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1955. He stayed in Big Rapids and attended Ferris State University, where he earned an Associate Degree. Don was in the Navy Reserves and proudly served two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy on the Wasp Aircraft Carrier stationed in the Mediterranean.

Don was a Barber while in the Navy and decided to make it his profession. After the Navy, he attended Barber School in Chicago and became a licensed Barber. He married his wife of 60 years, Ruth Peters, on June 25, 1960. They spent most of their married life in Flushing, were he owned and operated Don’s Barber Shop, until his retirement in 2000.

Don was active in the Flushing Community. He was a past member of the Jaycee’s and present member of the Flushing Lions Club. Masonry was a big part of Don’s life. He was a member of Flushing Masonic Loge #223 F. & A.M. and also a life member of Flint Rapids Chapter of Royal Arch Masons #116. He was also a member of the Elf Khurafeh Shrine. Don was also a long-time member of Flushing United Methodist Church and cherished his many friends there.

Don is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters, Kristina (David) Moore, Paula (Van) Bigelow; grandchildren, Krista (Henry) Justiniano, Joshua (Patricia) Tippett; brother, Gerald A. (Hazel) Jones, brother-in-law, Marvin (Clela) Peters; sister-in-law, Mary Peters; special cousin, Bobby Jo Jones; as well as several nieces, nephews and long time friends, Buster McKerracher and Ron and Jan Burns.

Thanks to everyone who helped us through this difficult time. A special thank you to the compassionate Hospice workers, especially Ben and Theresa.
