AUSTIN, Jimmy – of Flint, age 88, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Keith Childerhose and Rev. Dan Shinabarger co-officiating. Interment will be in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors from 11 AM until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Old News Boys of Flint, in Jimmy’s memory.
Jim was born at the family home in Mt. Morris, MI on June 10, 1937, son of the late George and Lillian (Thayer) Austin. He lived in Gilford, MI as a young child, until the family moved to Flint. Jim graduated from Flint Central High School. He began working for GM in July of 1964, working both at Fisher Body and Buick for more than 42 years until his retirement in November of 2006. After retirement, Jim could often be found on the shooting range at Williams Gun Sight. He also loved to collect Lionel Trains. Jim took great pride in a well-manicured lawn. He was also known for his vast movie collection that he would share with family and friends. Jim attended Bethel Park Free Methodist Church, and later New Covenant Free Methodist Church in Clio.
Jim married the love of his life, Judy Morey, on August 10, 1968, in Flint, MI. Judy will remember him as a loyal husband and father, who worked hard to provide for his family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Judy; 3 children, Michael Austin, Robert (Jill) Austin and Rebecca Austin; 6 grandchildren, Noah, Finnley, Miranda, Ocean, Abigail, Sullivan; sister, Mary Ann (Gary) Little; brother-in-law, Don Morey; sister-in-law, Bev Cousins; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, George Austin and a sister, Carrie Obenour.
